ADGA partnering with Leap Biosystems to develop remote medical procedure guidance technology for space

ADGA Group has partnered with Leap Biosystems to develop remote medical procedure guidance technology. This technology will enable remote northern communities in Canada, geographically distributed military units and international crews on deep space missions such as the next lunar landings and future missions to Mars, to access just in time procedural guidance for medical emergencies.

In addition, ADGA recently signed a contribution agreement with the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) to support the research and development of next generation augmented reality technology (MedCoachTM) for medical procedure guidance. ADGA and Leap Biosystems will jointly develop and commercialize the MedCoachTM technology internationally.

“We are excited to partner with the ADGA Group in developing technology for space medicine that can be used to enhance remote medical care on Earth,” commented Dr. Dave Williams, CEO of Leap Biosystems. “As the global space economy continues to grow, Leap Biosystems hopes to create new opportunities for Canada by providing innovative solutions for space and remote medical care.”

The MedCoachTM project is a continuation of concept development work awarded to ADGA by the Canadian Space Agency in 2019 as part of a focus on Canadian industry innovation in space medicine technologies. A second IRAP contribution agreement was signed in 2019 for the research and development of open architecture reconfigurable simulator systems to enable medium fidelity crew task training for space and military training applications. This industry-leading initiative will generate high quality person jobs, a key priority for Canada — with five high expertise positions already in place.

“We are pleased to partner with Leap Biosystems to provide expertise to the Canadian Space Agency,” said Françoise Gagnon,” CEO of ADGA. “The work being carried out keeps Canada at the leading edge of space technology and reasserts our leadership in the global space economy.”
