The attack started on Friday, 12 May 2017. It targeted users of older Microsoft Windows operating systems using phishing e-mails as the contagion vector. By Monday, the code had infected more than 230,000 computers in 150 countries.
The truth is that, Ransomware attacks have been growing in Canada over the past year. Exploits purportedly stolen from US intelligence agencies have hit the street and are being repurposed into crimeware1. We have been monitoring this trend closely and recognized the significance of the exploit.
It is worth pointing out that these incidents are less about software, as they are about hacking ‘wetware.’2
Nowadays, nearly all cyber compromises are socially engineered.
Similarly, the greatest magnitude denial-of-service attacks come from the Internet-of-Things3. Cyber is the nervous system that binds all critical infrastructures, can influence populations and interfere with the democratic process4.
The fact is that we are living in a converged World; requiring converged security solutions.
ADGA understands that engineering cyber security solutions is not always about the technology, and effective defence needs to be proactive.
“Yet, there appears to be an over emphasis on emergency management and disaster recovery, thus establishing a policy of failure as the starting point to a strategy on cyber security.”5
That is why converged security solutions are engineered to proactively defend people, critical infrastructure and information from harm. At ADGA, we offer a unique solution that includes: Enterprise Risk Management, Physical Security, Cyber Security, Personnel Security, Electronic Security Systems, Security Intelligence, Investigations and Training. Our wealth of experience, armed with a team of seasoned security professionals and a substantive partner network, enables us to provide our clients with customized solutions that solve their unique security challenges. We close the gaps created by traditional ‘siloed’ solutions by securing the Internet-of-Everything.
ADGA offers enterprises a comprehensive security assessment leveraging our converged security practice to:
- Provide enhanced situational awareness (business integrity);
- Drive efficiencies across the organization;
- Aid in cost recovery; and
- Mitigate cross-domain threats and risks proactively.
